Brooklyn pizza, an iconic symbol of New York's culinary landscape, traces its origins back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries with the influx of Italian immigrants to the borough. These immigrants brought with them the traditional methods and recipes of Neapolitan pizza, but as they settled in Brooklyn's diverse neighborhoods, they adapted their craft to suit the tastes and preferences of their new surroundings. The defining characteristics of Brooklyn pizza began to emerge: a thin, crispy crust that's sturdy enough to hold ample toppings yet still foldable enough to eat on the go, a tangy tomato sauce, and a generous layer of melted mozzarella cheese. Over the decades, as Brooklyn evolved, so did its pizza scene, with numerous pizzerias putting their own unique spin on the classic pie. From the storied coal-fired ovens of places like Totonno's and Grimaldi's to the innovative creations of modern artisanal pizzerias, Brooklyn pizza continues to be celebrated worldwide for its rich history, diverse flavors, and enduring legacy.
